Review - Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, NJ

Photo pulled from Google

Hello! I have no idea how you ended up here. You must've gone pretty deep into the Google results. Good for you! But please keep in mind this was written and published in 2008 and is most likely pretty out of date information! I'm still a photographer though, and you can still check me out at johngallino.com

The Stony Hill Inn is a nice place in the south end of Hackensack right off of Route 80. Being in a somewhat urban area, this is not the place to go if you like a lot of outdoor grounds and gardens. The outside area is small, but features several nice shaded patio areas for your guests to relax in. In particular there is an easily-missed white tent covering an outdoor bar. Make sure you drag your photographer under this tent, as the white covering diffuses light beautifully and makes for very flattering pictures! Inside it features a decent room for ceremonies to be held. In the late evening the sun shines through the curtains in a way that makes the room very ethereal and interesting, but it is otherwise nothing very glamorous.

The Stony Hill is a good place for a fairly large wedding. The cocktail hour room is very big and features several seats and tables for your guests to relax. The wedding I attended housed 180 guests without issue, and it never felt too cramped.

While you and your guests are enjoying the cocktail hour, the ceremony room is being transformed. A wall is taken down and two rooms become one to comfortably accommodate a large number of guests for your reception.

Overall I have few bad things to say about the place. I particularly hate low ceilings, and though the ceilings are high in most of the reception room, it's fairly low right above the dance floor, which is where many of your guests will spend most of the reception. From the outside, the place isn't too pretty and you can see and hear the highway from the patio, which may not be the relaxing atmosphere you want for your wedding. But these are small points, and may not bother you at all, so I urge you to see this place for yourself if you're looking to have over 150 guests in the Hackensack area.
